Fushimi (Tofuku-ji Temple, Fushim Inari Shrine, Sake Musium, & Gion) One Day Tour

In this tour, you visit Fushimi area in Kyoto, famous for the thousand of Torii (red gate) that has been popular on Instagram. 

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

Fushimi is the southern part of Kyoto City, and is an easy reach by JR or Keihan Line.  In Fushimi, there’re the big and time-honored Zen Buddhist temple called “Tofukuji” with renowned 20th Century Zen gardens, Fushimi Inari Shinto shrine with 1000 vermilion Torii gates and Sake breweries.  Fushimi, benefited by good quality underground water, boasts of a large Sake production in Japan.  You can see old Sake production tools and try Sake in Okura Sake Museum.  After visiting Fushimi, you go around Gion area, a flower town with Geisha and apprentice Geisha called Maiko.

◆Tofukuji Temple
A huge and old Zen Buddhist temple located a stop from JR Kyoto station by JR.  It was established as a family temple for the Kujo Family, aristocrats in the middle of the 13th Century.  There’re the oldest existing San-mon gate, a lavatory and a meditation created in the 14th or 15th Century.  Most of the buildings were burn down in a fire at the endo of the 19th Century, and rebuilt after that.  Zen gardens were created by Shigemori Mirei, a famous garden designer, in the 20th Century attached the reconstructed buildings.  Autumal foliage is famous, bringing a crowd of visitors.

◆Okura Sake Museum
At the 350th anniversary of the establishment of Gekkeikan Co., it was built at where the company originated from, using an old sake brewery house built in 1909.  You can learn how sake is manufactured and the history of the company.  The museum has about 400 old Sake production tools.  You can try several kinds of Sake there.  A mini-brewery can be seen on a reservation, free of charge.

◆Fushimi Inari Shrine
 Traditionally, Inari Shrine was reserved as the deity of agriculture, which was the center of prayers for good harvests. Today the deity of Fushimi Inari is also known for its kami of business where people pray for prosperous businesses. The Fushimi Inari Shrine is the headquarters of 30,000 Inari shrines in the nation. In Shintoism, it is believed that kami, nature and humans coexist harmoniously.
 Passing through thousands of vermilion colored tori gates, a long path will lead you to a mountain of mystery, Mt.Inari. It attracts attention from overseas tourists, too.

◆Gion
Gion is the entertainment district beautifully lined with traditional town houses and restaurants, where geisha girls (Geiko) and apprentice geisha girls (Maiko) live and work at night.  There’re Ochayas where a party is held inviting them, and Okiyas, special dormitories for them.  Nowadays some of them have been turned into restaurants and souvenir shops.  You can’t enter an ochaya without anyone who introduces you there, but lately some sightseeing facility is available where you can meet them.

(2) 2 days before the program day: 50 % of the program fee
